In Germany, the host family must take out insurance for their au pair. This insurance must be valid for the entire duration of the au pair's stay. Au pair insurance includes health, accident, and liability insurance. The cost of au pair insurance depends on the choice of insurance policy (called tariff in Germany) and the risks covered. They range from about 25 to 70 euros per month. A standard package usually includes outpatient and inpatient medical treatment.
