Travel Vaccinations and Travel Medicine

Many health insurance funds offer advice via hotlines

Travel vaccinations are not included in the mandatory statutory health insurance benefits. Nevertheless, many statutory health insurance funds cover the costs. Travel vaccinations and vaccination advice before traveling abroad are voluntary benefits provided by some statutory health insurance funds.

Many statutory health insurance funds offer vaccination advice for people traveling abroad via a hotline. The sooner insured persons seek advice, the better. Consultations should take place at least six weeks before departure. Often, several vaccinations are necessary to achieve full protection. After all, it can take some time to be fully immunized.

Generally, patients initially pay for the vaccines and the doctor’s fees themselves. The statutory health insurance provider then reimburses the costs. The rules for reimbursement differ between statutory health insurance funds.
