Health Insurance Contributions for Students

Statutory health insurance and long-term care insurance are compulsory insurances for students in Germany. Enrollment at a university is only possible if you are insured. The health insurance company collects the long-term care insurance contribution at the same time and debits the total contribution from your bank account.
The calculation of student contributions is based on an amount set by law of 812.00 euros. Since the contribution rates of health insurance companies vary, the health insurance contributions for students also vary accordingly. The health insurance benefits are more or less the same, as they are mandated by law.
The option of low-cost student health insurance ends at the age of 30. After that, students will need to take out a much more expensive voluntary statutory health insurance or private health insurance.
